 Hello Room 8 families,

Book coming home
The Canadian Children's Book Centre (CCBC) is delighted to give each Grade 1 student in our school a beautiful Canadian children's book. This year, students are coming home with Malaika's Costume, written by Nadia L. Hohn, illustrated by Irene Luxbacher. Enjoy!

Marshmallow
Our classroom pet Marshmallow, the rose petal betta fish, will need to be cared for over the Christmas break. If your child would like to take him home please send Mrs. Melindy an email and we can arrange a date and time to pickup the fish, aquarium, and food. I promise he is easy to take care of! You can return him back to school on January 4th.

Hibernation
Today we started talking about how animals survive the winter. We began discussing what the term hibernation means. Then we acted out a couple of animals and the locations of where they hibernate for the winter!

Winter Favourites
The first official day of winter is December 21st, however we have been creating some art based on things we love about when the seasons change from fall to winter. Check it out below!

A Thank You:

I just wanted to extend a thank you to all families for attending parent-teacher conferences. It was so wonderful to chat about your child! Please feel free to email Mrs. Melindy at any time if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Our Grade 1 classroom:

We have been exploring the needs of people, animals, and plants. Next we are going to continue our discussion about seasonal changes and what all living things need in order to survive the winter! Stay tuned.

Your child will be bringing home 2D shape cards to sort based on certain attributes such as colour, size, number of sides, number of vertices (corners), regular or irregular shape, straight lines or curved lines, etc. Take some time to practice with your child!
